Monday 23 September 2024 has been set aside to honour veteran Nollywood actor, Chief Lere Paimo, MFR, popularly known as Eda Onile-Ola and some other illustrious sons and daughters of Yorubaland.

According to the organisers, the event organized to mark the Yoruba National Day will feature President Bola Tinubu, Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and 24 Odu’a Awardees.

This was revealed in a press statement signed by the President-General, Grand Council of Yoruba Youths, Comrade Awa Bamiji which was forwarded to PMNEWS on Wednesday in Lagos.

According to Bamiji, Gov. Sanwo-Olu will “lead the Southwest governors as their Chairman to this year’s Yoruba National Day lecture holding on Monday, 23 September 2024, at 11 am, in honour of a leading figure in the movie industry, Chief Lere Paimo, MFR, alias Eda Onile-Ola @ 85 in University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State.

“The Yoruba National Day celebration will hold at the newly renovated Wole Soyinka Theatre, formerly Arts Theatre, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State.”

He said the event would “be used to celebrate the 85th birthday of a core progressive, elder statesman and veteran actor, Chief Lere Paimo, a.k.a Eda Onile-Ola.

“A lecture, titled: ‘National Unity and Agitation for Self- Determination: The way forward for Nigeria?’ will be delivered by Lagos State Gov. Sanwo-Olu, who doubles as Chairman, Southwest Governors’ Forum, while the discussant is Senator Yemi Adaramodu.”

He added that “the Chairman of the event is a renowned June 12 Activist Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu, Leader, Yoruba Unity Forum (South), while another prominent June 12 Activist, Senator Shehu Sani (North) will co-chair this Yoruba Youth Leadership Summit, 12th Edition since October 2001 inauguration of Agbarijo Egbe Odo Yoruba, Grand Council of Yoruba Youths.

“The Special Guests of Honour are President Bola Tinubu (GCFR) and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. Guests of Honour are past and present South West governors and their deputies.

“The Special Guests are Southwest Senators, their House of Representatives colleagues and Speakers of the Southwest Houses of Assembly.”
