Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has sacked the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, Otonye Briggs, with immediate effect.
This was contained in a press statement issued by Nelson Chukwudi, the Chief Press Secretary, CPS, to the governor.
According to the statement, “The Governor has directed Bitebobo Nelson Amieye, to immediately take over as Chairman.
Briggs was directed to hand over all the council property in his possession to the new Caretaker Committee Chairman.
The sacking of Briggs is coming ahead of the October 5 local government council election in the state.
No reason was given for his sack but political observers in the state said Briggs’ sack might not be unconnected with his alleged romance with loyalists of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
He was said to have been seen hobnobbing and congratulating those elected during the contentious Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ward, local government and State delegate Congresses.
Fubara and his loyalists boycotted the exercise because of the allegation that former Go. Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and his loyalists hijacked the process.
