This weekend’s episode of Globacom-sponsored African Voices Playmakers on CNN International will spotlight Nigeria’s literary giant and global icon, Professor Wole Soyinka.
The 30-minute magazine programme will delve into Soyinka’s ideas and the passion that have driven his distinguished life and career.
The Nobel Laureate will offer insights into his remarkable journey, discussing the principles and values that have influenced his work.
Soyinka will also touch on his profound activism and its inspiration for his film “The Man Died” about his political incarceration in Nigeria, set for release later this year.
Born on July 13, 1934, Soyinka received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1986 for his deep cultural perspective and poetic brilliance. His educational achievements include studies at the University College Ibadan (now the University of Ibadan) and the University of Leeds in the UK.
In addition to the Nobel Prize, Soyinka’s accolades include the Benson Medal from the Royal Society of Literature (1990), the Academy of Achievement Golden Plate Award (2009), the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award for Lifetime Achievement (2012), and the Europe Theatre Prize, Special Prize (2017).
Viewers can tune into African Voices at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday on DSTV Channel 401. Replays will air at noon on the same day, and at 4:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, with additional airings on Monday at 4:00 a.m.
