Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has shed light on his keen interest in the ongoing Edo State governorship election, following questions from fans and political observers.
The election, which was conducted on Saturday, has been marked by allegations of malpractice.
Davido took to social media platform X to express his concerns, specifically calling out the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its handling of the election.
Many questioned the singer’s involvement, noting that he is not a native of Edo State.
Responding to the inquiries, Davido explained via his X handle that his late mother, Imade Veronica Adeleke, hailed from Edo State, adding that he also has a vested interest in Nigeria’s political integrity as a citizen.
“The most dangerous institution in Nigeria @INECnigeria
Edo people no gree ooo, fight till finish
We dey wait for Osun 2026. Try this nonsense
Extend voting time
Make them hungry, then make them sell their votes to survive. When our munu go do ooo. Haba”.
My mom is from Edo. For those wondering why I’m interested in the election … we as Nigerians should be concerned.. @inecnigeria, shame on you; I know how many times I had to come in here and rant before they got it right in Osun! It’s really bad. God help us
We already know that @inecnigeria will not transmit results electronically so everyone should be ready to follow the vote/result from the polling unit up until state collation center,” he tweeted.
He further criticized INEC for what he described as poor management of elections, referencing his earlier experiences during the Osun State gubernatorial election, in which his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, emerged as governor.
The singer’s condemnation of INEC follows his public endorsement of PDP candidate Asuen Ighodalo for the governorship via Instagram.
“It’s really bad. God help us,” he concluded, urging the electoral body to ensure fairness in the democratic process.
The Edo State election has been under intense scrutiny as results are awaited, with INEC yet to officially respond to the allegations.
