Edo election: Buhari reacts to victory of APC’s Okpebholo

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has described the victory of Sen. Monday Okpebholo, the candidate of All Progressives Congress(APC), candidate in Saturday’s Edo governorship election as historic .

Buhari said this in a statement he issued to congratulate Okpebholo on his victory in the governorship election contested for by 18 candidates.

The former President, in the congratulatory message, described the victory as “historic”.

He expressed hope that the incoming government would work together with everyone to strengthen democracy and maintain the trajectory of the state’s development.

Buhari also prayed for a new lease of life for Edo State and its people, and commended law enforcement agencies for the efforts that ensured a peaceful election.

Okpebholo floored his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, Asue Ighodalo, to pick the seat in the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday.

Prof. Faruk Kuta, while declaring the result, said that Okpebholo got 291,667 votes, while Ighodalo got 247,274 votes.

The candidate of Labour Party (LP), Mr Olumide Akpata, came third with 22,763 votes.
