Former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Monday, criticised the PDP’s governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, describing him as merely a “visiting Edo indigene” who primarily operates from the Protea Hotel in Lagos.

Oshiomhole made these remarks during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, responding to a comment by Peter Obi, who referred to the Edo election as a “state capture.”

In his response, Oshiomhole said, “Those who elected Senator Monday Okpebholo are from Edo State. Obi is not from Edo State, the PDP chairman is not from Edo State. Asue Ighodalo is an occasional visitor to Edo; he doesn’t live in Edo, he operates from Protea Hotel.”

He further emphasised Ighodalo’s detachment from his roots, contrasting it with his own political campaign: “He doesn’t live in his village. I campaigned from my village, from my house. You said you saw people in my house yesterday; let him do a press conference from his residence to show that he resides with the people. He is a visitor, and I told you earlier, Edo people will not elect a visitor again.”

Oshiomhole also criticised Ighodalo further: “They are visitors from Lagos, and when they get to Edo, they say ‘Edo no be Lagos,’ meanwhile they made all their money in Lagos. ‘Edo no be Lagos,’ and you don’t understand Edo because you live in Lagos. Edo will not elect a visitor; he is a visiting Edo guy.”
