The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended former Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, in connection with an alleged N27 billion fraud.

Ishaku, who served as governor from 2015 to 2023, was reportedly arrested at his residence in Abuja during the early hours of Friday.

According to EFCC insiders, Ishaku’s arrest follows a covert investigation that has been ongoing since he left office.

Investigators claim they have uncovered substantial evidence linking the former governor to various financial misconducts during his tenure.

Sources told Daily Trust that a 15-count charge has been prepared against him, with plans to arraign him in court in the coming days.

One EFCC official disclosed, “We have been gathering evidence for some time now, and his inability to account for certain financial activities during his administration raised major red flags.”

Ishaku remains in EFCC custody as of Friday night. Although the details of the charges remain confidential, the case is expected to progress swiftly.

When contacted, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the arrest but refrained from offering additional comments on the matter.
