Kidnapped ASUU official escapes from captivity

The Benin Zonal Coordinator of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof. Monday Igbafe, who was kidnapped Saturday night, has escaped from the kidnappers’ captivity.
Igbafen who is a lecturer of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, was driving to his residence in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of the State, when he was accosted by the gunmen.
He was reportedly driven away to an unknown destination inside his ash-coloured Toyota Highlanda with registration number ABJ 180 JQ.
Following his kidnap, operatives of Ekpoma Police Division commenced bush-combing, which aided his escape from his captors.
The State Command’s spokesperson, Joel Moses Yamu, confirmed Igbafen’s escape to journalists in Benin.
“The Command is aware of the report. Operatives of the Ekpoma Division mounted pressure on the kidnappers which led to the escape of the victim”.
“We are on the trail of the suspects to ensure they are brought to book,” Yamu said.
