Sowore, one of the main organisers of the protest, had called for a nationwide demonstration on October 1 to press for solutions to the deepening economic crisis affecting Nigerians. The protest has drawn attention across the country, coinciding with Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Mustapha Fayoade, confirmed the presence of law enforcement at the event, emphasising the police’s commitment to ensuring public safety. “The police are ready to support in securing the people, but the protesters must comply with the rules and maintain order,” Fayoade said in a brief statement.

Despite the tense atmosphere, the protest remained largely peaceful, with organisers urging participants to continue demonstrating in a non-violent manner while calling for governmental accountability and transparency.
