“As long as there’s music, as long as there’s a story to tell, I’ll keep going." - Dalyboy Belgason
Dalyboy Belgason

Born to Mr & Mrs Joseph Hyppolite, from Ihiala, Anambra state, Dalyboy Belgason, is an Afro-Cuban multi-talented artiste of Nigerian descent. He is a Hollywood director, actor, producer, software engineer, and entrepreneur.

Born in Santiago de Cuba and raised in Miami and Spanish Harlem, New York, his upbringing was sprinkled with diverse cultural influences, which deeply inform his artistic style. Known for blending Afrobeat, Reggae, and Hip-Hop, Dalyboy’s music is not only an expression of creativity but also a reflection of his life’s struggles and wins.

His passion for telling stories through his music has only grown over the years. His tracks resonate with audiences around the world, from Africa to the Caribbean.

In this interview with our reporter he takes our readers into a deep dive of his beliefs, vision, plans for the future and the reason music is his “World”.

Can you introduce yourself to our readers, and tell them where you are from?

My name is Dalyboy better known as Dalyboy Belgason. I was born in Santiago de Cuba and raised in Miami and Spanish Harlem, New York.

One can say you are a Jack of all trades; What motivates you, why did you decide to pursue music as a career?

Music is my passion and I grew up in church playing drums and keyboards. I love to see people dancing and vibing to my songs.

What is your full name? Why do you go by the name Dalyson? Our readers will find it interesting that you are an Igbo boy.

My Igbo name Kachisicho so my full name is Full name Dalyboy Kachisicho Hyppolite.

My producer name is Dalyboy Belgason and “Belgason” means pretty boy and it used to be my nickname in high school. My artist name as a singer is Dalyboy

You have achieved so much in your career, yet so little is known of you? Why is that? How come you are barely known in Nigeria yet you have a very rich catalog and packed resume?

It’s hard to break in the industry but I’m growing gradually. Rome wasn’t built in one day.
Every December, I go to Anambra State and love the vibes in Ihiala. I always try to get club performance gigs in both Lagos and Anambra to build my fan base when I go back in December.

Soon I will make mega hits and hopefully all this hardwork will pay off and I will blow up.

Where do you see yourself in the next 3yrs?

In 3 years I will hopefully have re-married again and have a few kids. 6 years ago I got divorced and I became stress free, it was the best thing that happened to me. I lost my freedom and passion during my marriage. In 3 years I want to build more wealth with real estate and other business adventures aside my music.

How do you handle the pressure that comes with being an artiste especially with the ladies?

Yes women throw themselves at you but you have to focus on what’s important to you in life. Make money first and never chase women. Once you have money the right woman will come your way and love becomes sweeter.

Ladies don’t really take artists or celebrities serious because they have the wrong idea of us. I always tell them artists or celebrities need love too and a good wife material or high value man.

What are your plans for the rest of the year? Are you planning on releasing new music, an EP or album? what’s on the table for you, what’s your next step?

I just released “Body Talk “ featuring Pardon C That’s my brother and I call him my player twin lol Jokes. I was on the TV show 1% Club on Fox Entertainment and an Amazon Prime TV show, and I made it to the semi-finals.
I have 4 track EP I’m working on:

Obim
Omoge
I’m rich, I’m a big boy
Back seat

I’m also shooting 2 movies in Ghana this December, Heart breakers revenge 2 & Deadline at 30ish. So I kinda have my hands full at the moment but j love being busy so I don’t mind.

What’s your aim when you are making music? How do you decide what to write or sing about?

I am aiming to reach top of the ladder and become big in the music industry.
I never underestimate myself and I know when the time is right I would get there.
I write my own songs and sometimes I get help from good lyricists. I like to sing about love my struggles and life’s challenges. I didn’t grow up with a silver spoon but I am working towards success and becoming a billionaire in dollars one day.

Some artistes love to freestyle when they record, they say the spontaneity helps their creative process, while others prefer to write first before they record. Which do you prefer, and why?

I don’t mind freestyle but I don’t like to diss other artists in my music. I love to freestyle about what’s happening to me at the moment and how I’m feeling right now

What are you currently working on? You are also an actor, do you have any movie in the works?

Like I mentioned earlier I am working on a 4 track EP while also making final plans for the movies I am shooting in Ghana by December.

Looking at your life and all you have achieved, is there anything you would want to change about your life given the chance?

I love my life and I don’t regret anything in the past. It’s life lessons and experience so I keep it moving forward.

Are you signed to any label?

I own my own label True High Class Entertainment INC. I used to produced a few artistes in the Caribbean and Nigeria but I decided to take a break because I don’t want to invest my money the wrong way in an artist that would leave you after they blow up. So
I’m taking it one day at a time.

Do you have any pieces of advice for upcoming artistes out there?

My advice is for young upcoming artists is simple; Believe in yourself don’t get discouraged and keep pushing yourself. Age doesn’t define your success and don’t let anybody tell you otherwise.

Have you ever writtten, produced or directed any movies of your own? Can you tell our readers the title(s)?

I have directed and produced over 30 films and it’s a long list but I want to produce more movies next year.

Which two artistes (Nigerian or non-Nigerian) would you love to collaborate with if you have the opportunity?

I would love to collaborate with Wizkid, Burnaboy and Davido. Also I would also love to work with Rihana, I’m a big fan and I would love the opportunity to produce for her or feature her.

What inspires you? Are you in a relationship?

I’m single and ready to mingle. I plan to find my African queen soon. Money inspires me, I want to live the good life and so I have to work for what I want.

How many siblings do you have? What puts you off about people?

I have four (4) siblings/sisters. I was a twin, but my brother is late.

You are Igbo, but raised by your grandmother who is Cuban, tell us about her? How did she influence you growing up? Do you speak Cuban Spanish or Igbo? Or you just speak English?

I learned a lot about my Haitian mom’s culture. Nigeria, Cuba, and Haiti have played a big part in my life, and my goal is to represent and carry all three flags with pride.

My grandma used to pay for my school when I was in college and she told me that she wanted me to be super rich one day. I made my first 1 million is dollars at 27 years old and lost it in 13 months with bad investments and being in the wrong circle.

When I turned 30 years old I got back on my feet and made more money. Yes I speak Spanish, French, English & Creole fluently. I understand Igbo 50%.I also know a few Yoruba words.

Who is your favorite Nigerian artiste (female)?

My favorite female Nigerian artists are Tiwa Savage and Tems. I love their style and the way they carry themselves.

Thank you for your time and we wish you the best in all your future endeavors.
