Governor Godwin Obaseki on Friday said  Philip Shaibu remains impeached as the Deputy Governor of Edo State until the court’s determination.

Obaseki, in a statement through his Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, was reacting to comment made by Shaibu which cautioned Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) against potential looting of government properties by political appointees.

The governor described the communication as “very ridiculous” and reiterated that Shaibu is still officially impeached pending the court’s ruling on the matter.

“We want to restate that Philip Shaibu remains impeached as the Deputy Governor of Edo State until the court’s determination and therefore lacks the power and authority to issue directives or warnings to Permanent Secretaries, Heads of MDAs, or any staff employed by the Edo State Government,” Obaseki stated.

He further urged all Edo workers to disregard Shaibu’s comments, labeling them as “infantile ramblings” from someone no longer in a position of authority.

The governor encouraged the state’s workforce to continue their duties diligently, free from any intimidation or harassment.

Obaseki’s firm stance underscores the ongoing political tensions within the Edo State Government as the legal process regarding Shaibu’s impeachment unfolds.
