Controversial Nigerian media personality, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been released on bail after fulfilling his bail conditions on Tuesday.

Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, disclosed this via his X (formerly Twitter) account, revealing that Darlington had been arrested last Friday in Lagos and later transferred to Abuja.

His detention followed a formal complaint filed by Nigerian music star Burna Boy, accusing Darlington of defamation and cyberstalking.

The complaint stemmed from a viral video in which Darlington taunted Burna Boy, questioning how he won the Grammy Award for his album Twice As Tall.

In the video, he suggested that Burna Boy’s connection with embattled American rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs who is currently facing multiple charges of sexual exploitation and human trafficking played a role in his success.

Following the video, Darlington was discreetly apprehended by the police.

However, Adeyanju thanked those who played a part in securing Darlington’s release, commending the professionalism of the Nigerian Police’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) department.

“Special appreciation to #YeleSowore, super reliable senior lawyer #stanalieke, and to all Nigerians for raising their voice for Speed Darlington. Must also appreciate Prof Sanusi and his team at IRT for their professionalism today,” Adeyanju wrote.
