Lagos state leads tech delegation to GITEX 2024 in Dubai

The Lagos State Government is set to lead a delegation of startup and established technology companies to the Global Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) 2024 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Held annually at the Dubai World Trade Center, GITEX showcases rapid technological advancements, investment opportunities, and projects that are shaping the economies of the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. This year’s event, running from October 13 to 18, will feature a robust presence from Lagos, a reflection of the State’s growing technology ecosystem.
The Lagos contingent, comprising companies involved in enterprise resource planning (ERP) management, robotics, and software development, aims to bolster the state’s technological landscape.
Speaking ahead of the event, Lagos State Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Mr. Tunbosun Alake, noted the potential for significant investments.
“We are targeting over $3 million in investments through partnerships for startups and established companies,” Alake said.
He further noted that Lagos has already benefited from its past participation in GITEX, securing valuable collaborations and investments that have boosted the tech ecosystem.
Alake stressed the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to enhancing the state’s tech sector.
“Since 2022, we have brought startups to GITEX, many of which have won global partnerships, grants, and performed admirably in global competitions like Supanova,” he said.
Lagos startups have begun expanding into other markets, a depiction of the state’s progress.
This year, the Lagos delegation seeks to deepen government-to-government partnerships with the UAE and Dubai, further increasing visibility in the global tech space.
The Commissioner also revealed that the Dubai World Trade Centre has expressed interest in hosting a global technology event in Lagos, a move expected to bring direct and indirect benefits to the state.
Leading the Lagos delegation to GITEX 2024 will be Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat. He will participate in high-profile activities, including fireside chats and meetings with investors and global leaders, with the goal of attracting further investments to Lagos.
