A man has been jailed for 14 years after robbing a woman and attempting to rob another at gunpoint, following a successful investigation by Met Police detectives who worked closely with the victims.

Ismail Tajzai, 26, of Moberly Road, SW4, appeared at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday, 18 October, where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges.

These included robbery, attempted robbery, two counts of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to commit robbery, making threats to kill, strangulation, and perverting the course of justice.

According to the Met Police, Tajzai’s crimes occurred on the 21st and 22nd of February, after he arranged appointments with two sex workers. In the first incident, he produced a handgun, tied up the woman, and stole approximately £2,000.

The next day, he attempted to rob a second woman, hitting her with the handgun and attempting to strangle her when she resisted, before fleeing the scene.

CCTV footage also provided clear facial imagery, leading to his swift arrest. During the arrest, police recovered the gun and cable ties, which Tajzai had thrown from the balcony of his home.

Detective Constable Stephanie Clarke praised the bravery of the victims, stating: “This case highlights the support police offer to all victims of crime. Tajzai targeted vulnerable women, assuming they would be too afraid to report the crimes. Their courage ensured his capture and conviction.”

Detective Inspector Luke Bacon commended his team’s swift actions, adding: “This was a time-sensitive case, and their dedication likely prevented further attacks. The victims’ bravery in coming forward has ensured that this dangerous man is now behind bars.”

A restraining order has also been put in place, prohibiting Tajzai from contacting the two victims.
