The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that a total of 55,859 Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) were collected within five days ahead of the Ondo governorship election.
This was contained in a statement issued by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, on Tuesday.
Olumekun stated that PVC collection had been impressive across the state from 17th to 21st October 2024.
He explained that during this five-day period, PVCs from the latest Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) initiative were made available in all 203 wards, leading to significant participation from the electorate.
According to him, a total of 55,859 PVCs were collected, accounting for 62.2% of the 89,777 cards prepared for distribution.
He noted that this marked the highest percentage of PVCs collected in five days since the introduction of the CVR in 2015.
Olumekun added that a detailed breakdown of collection rates by Local Government Areas (LGAs) had been made available on the INEC website and its social media platforms to keep the public informed.
The commission had previously announced that PVC collection would continue in the 18 LGA offices in Ondo State from Wednesday, 23rd October, until Tuesday, 29th October 2024, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, including weekends.
He further stated that detailed information on the locations of the LGA offices could also be accessed on the INEC website.
Olumekun reiterated that INEC urged voters who had not yet collected their PVCs to do so in person, as the commission maintained its policy against proxy collection.
