Famous Nigerian musician, Timaya, has opened up about his love for controversial street-pop singer Portable, revealing that the rising star reminds him of his own wild past.
In an interview with Channels Television, Timaya explained that Portable’s bold and unpredictable personality resonates with his early days in the music industry.
“Portable reminds me of my past because he’s crazy like me,” Timaya shared.
Recalling the moment he first discovered Portable’s music, he revealed that he introduced the singer’s hit song “Zazu Zeh” to his colleague, 2face Idibia.
“That’s why I like Portable. When he came out, I told 2face on our way to Delta State, ‘Have you heard that guy Portable? Zazu Zeh. That guy is just like me because I was a crazy guy,’” Timaya said.
The “Dem Mama” crooner noted that younger generations, particularly Gen Z, are unaware of his fiery early career, often labeling him as unproblematic.
“Sometimes when I talk, people say, ‘Timaya minds his business,’ and I just laugh because if only they knew me back then. I was hot like fire. But I’ve calmed down now. There’s growth, but being crazy was a strategy for me at the time.”
