Renowned Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has voiced his concerns over the heavy military and police presence in Nigeria’s Southeast region.
In a video posted on his Instagram page on Wednesday, the actor raised alarm about the continuous humiliation faced by travelers in the area.
Comparing his experience in the South-West, Kanayo shared that during a recent journey from Ibadan to Lagos, covering approximately 80 kilometers, he encountered no police or military checkpoints.
He noted the overwhelming number of checkpoints in the South-East, where, according to him, travelers cannot cover 200 kilometers without being stopped.
“Why is the South-East so militarized and policed?” Kanayo asked.
“The humiliation and delays people experience in the region need to be addressed. For instance, passengers traveling from Enugu to Onitsha are often asked to disembark and raise their hands, subjected to unnecessary stress.”
