Aisha Yesufu, prominent activist and convener of the Bring Back Our Girls movement, has called Nigerian singer Seun Kuti “a product of Fela’s indiscipline.”
This remark was made after the musician criticized her stance on women’s rights in Nigeria.
The exchange began when Kuti responded to Yesufu’s advocacy for women’s freedom, telling her to “liberate herself from [her] hijab first.”
Reacting to Kuti’s comments, Yesufu took to social media, stating that Kuti’s career, which she described as struggling, hinges on his late father’s legacy, Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti.
In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Yesufu wrote, “Seun Kuti wants to trend with my name as his karaoke business no make him blow alongside those wey dey do music. I don’t blame him! If only his father had discipline over his loin we wouldn’t be dealing with the consequences of that lack of discipline!”
She went on to call Kuti “a caricature” of his father.
Seun Kuti, known for his outspoken views and music, is the youngest son of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, a pioneer of Afrobeat and an icon in Nigerian music history.
