Nigerian filmmaker Obi Emelonye shared a moving tribute to his wife, Amaka, on her birthday, describing her as the “closest thing to perfection” in his life.
Emelonye recalled his father’s unconventional advice on marriage, urging him to “find a woman way above his league” and spend his life making himself worthy of her, a sentiment he said he found in Amaka.
Posting on Instagram, Emelonye expressed gratitude for his wife’s presence, calling her his “graceful queen” and thanking her for creating a loving home.
Emelonye wrote: “I followed my father’s advice for a long, happy marriage. He said, “son find yourself a woman that is way above your league and spend the rest of your life making yourself worthy of her”.
“Taking marriage advice from a polygamist maybe ill-advised but in the absence of perfection, Amaka is the closest thing to the epitome of all the things I could have wished for in a wife.
“I may not believe in stars but I thank the heavens for aligning for her to be born on this day so that my life may be complete. Happy birthday my graceful queen and thank you for making me a happy nest to come home to.”
The heartfelt message quickly garnered responses from friends, colleagues, and fans, with birthday wishes pouring in.
Some noted her inspiring influence, referring to her as Emelonye’s “queen” and “boss’s queen,” while actor Sam Ajibola and several others sent warm wishes, celebrating her as a vital part of Emelonye’s life.
The birthday message, received with admiration and love from the public, highlights the strong bond between the couple, celebrated by Emelonye’s friends and followers.
Earlier, Emelonye’s latest work, Out of Breath, had been selected as the closing film for the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) 2024.
This milestone marks a significant achievement for Emelonye and his team, as the Igbo-language film, made a year ago, gains momentum on the heels of nine nominations at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA 2024).
