Nigerian singer Chike has claimed that Apple Music Nigeria’s top songs chart is often manipulated, asserting that the Top 10 and Top 20 lists are frequently rigged through paid promotions.
In an interview on the show Curiosity Made Me Ask, hosted by content creator Bae U Barbie, Chike revealed that artistes can influence their chart positions by paying to boost streams.
“Your Top 10 and Top 20 on Apple Music is rigged… Not all the time to be fair, but most times,” he stated, acknowledging some exceptions.
Chike explained that the music industry’s drive for visibility has led artistes and their teams to pay for chart placements to increase their exposure.
“Right now, if I want to be top 10 on Apple Music, I can tell my guys ‘okay please spend $30,000’ and we will go to top 10. But then it’s not real,” he added, emphasizing that while some positions are earned organically, many top spots are bought, often benefiting artistes with substantial promotional budgets.
