Massive drug bust: NDLEA uncovers 2,760kg of Cannabis in Lagos Shrine raid

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Lagos apprehended suspects and seized vast quantities of cannabis and other illicit substances.

A statement issued by NDLEA‘s spokesman, Femi Babafemi on Sunday said on Friday, 25 October, officers raided the Igbo-Igunuko shrine at Alfa Beach in Ajah, Lagos, uncovering 2,760kg of Ghanaian Loud, a potent cannabis strain.

Two suspects, Gbenga Abiodun and Sunday Abiodun, were detained. The same day, another suspect, Ademola Oyelakin, was arrested along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway with 770kg of the same drug.

Babafemi said at a separate location on Marwa Coastal Road, Lekki Phase 1, officers discovered an underground storage filled with 11,786 pills of tramadol, molly, rohypnol, and diazepam, along with 64 bottles of codeine syrup.

The stash was hidden in a concealed compartment under suspect Muhammad Warnos Abdullahi’s bedroom floor, beneath a padlocked iron slate, rug, and mattress.

In Plateau State, Fadan Bindom, 39, was detained in Pilgani village with 65.85kg of cannabis and 18 grams of tramadol. Additionally, Sunday Agbata, 42, was apprehended in Rayfield, Jos South LGA, carrying 5,830 tablets and ampoules of bromazepam, diazepam, and pentazocine injection on Wednesday, 23 October.

In Abuja, a major drug distributor, Umar Muhammed, 40, was arrested on Monday, 21 October, following the interception of a 198.5kg cannabis shipment at Wuse market park, linking him to the distribution network.

Further south, Edo State NDLEA operatives seized 640kg of cannabis hidden in 80 bags of vegetables at Ewu Junction, Irrua, leading to the arrest of Austin Oruamen, 27.

Meanwhile, in Osun State, 35-year-old Adereti Kazeem was apprehended with 200 blocks of cannabis weighing 133kg at Obalayan, Ile-Ife, on Thursday, 24 October.
