Chelsea emerged victorious over Newcastle United with a thrilling 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, propelling them up the Premier League table.
The match kicked off with an early chance for Chelsea’s Noni Madueke, who picked up a pass and fired from the edge of the box, but Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope was quick to dive to his right, denying the effort.
Just moments later, Cole Palmer received a well-placed, low pass inside the box and struck the ball towards the bottom right corner, seemingly scoring for Chelsea.
However, referee Simon Hooper quickly signalled for a VAR review, primarily to check for any offside in the build-up. After a tense wait, the goal was disallowed, much to the disappointment of the Chelsea fans.
In the 18th minute, Chelsea took the lead when Pedro Neto managed to prod the ball to Nicolas Jackson following a scramble inside the box. Jackson wasted no time and slotted the ball into the bottom right corner, making it 1-0 for Chelsea.
Newcastle responded with pressure, and Sandro Tonali had a chance from mid-range, but his strike was blocked by the Chelsea defence.
The Magpies equalised in the 32nd minute when Alexander Isak found space inside the box to meet a precise cross, driving the ball low into the bottom right corner.
After a brief celebration, Newcastle’s players halted as the referee made the VAR signal to review the goal. However, Hooper upheld his original decision, confirming that the goal stood and the score was 1-1.
As the first half drew to a close, Neto almost regained the lead for Chelsea with a powerful shot, but Nick Pope managed to make a stunning save.

Despite Newcastle’s attempts to equalise, Chelsea held firm, securing a hard-fought victory and important three points in their pursuit of Premier League success.
