The Rector of Kogi state Polytechnic, Lokoja, Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman has launched a Sickle Cell Foundation with a call for an end of stigma against people suffering from the disease.

Ogbo canvassed the position as part of activities to mark his 52-year birthday at Galaxy Event Centre, Lokoja.

He acknowledged God for the gift of life, saying God’s mercy has allowed him to witness yet another year, even as many of his peers have long departed.

Earlier, in an opening speech, the Chairman, Organising Committee, Abdullahi Bello, appreciated God for adding another year to the celebrant, noting that Ogbo had left great footprints in Kogi state Polytechnic and the field of educational institution in Kogi state.

The Speaker, Kogi state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Yusuf Umar, who represented the governor Ahmed, Usman Ododo, congratulated the Rector.

“Prof. Ogbo Usman, indeed, you are a great blessing to Kogi state and the people. You possess the skills for students’ global quality education. May the good Lord grant you peace, wisdom, and blessings in abundance. I wish you many more years of celebrations.”

The Atta Igala, His Royal Majesty Dr. Mathew Opaluwa Ogoche was among dignitaries that gave goodwill messages at the event.
