Two friends, Ekene and Stanley, have confessed to the Delta State Police Command that they killed a woman on her farm at Oriogo in Delta State while attempting to steal her motorbike.
The young men, both 20 years old, were paraded by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, on Tuesday.
According to SP Edafe, the suspects ambushed the woman in a remote bush area, where they initially intended only to rob her of her bike.
However, they ultimately strangled her and inflicted fatal machete wounds. Disturbed by the incident, one of the suspects reported the crime to his mother, who urged him to confess to local vigilante authorities. The vigilante group quickly apprehended the duo and handed them over to the police.
Recounting the incident, Ekene admitted that his friend Stanley had initiated the attack, strangling the woman as she took a break from her work to eat.
“Stanley used a cloth to strangle her,” Ekene said. “When she collapsed, he struck her with a machete. We tried to take the bike but couldn’t find the key, so we fled. I later told my mother what happened, and she advised me to report to the vigilante.”
Stanley admitted to the killing, claiming it was not premeditated. “We didn’t plan to kill her; we only wanted the bike,” he said. “I killed her by mistake. She didn’t know who I was.”
The case is currently under investigation by the Delta State Police Command.
