Former President Barack Obama has rebuked former President Donald Trump for claiming credit over pandemic relief cheques, urging voters to remember who truly initiated the support.
In a social media post, Obama drew a stark contrast between Trump’s approach and the legislative actions that led to Americans receiving financial aid, clarifying that the funds originated from Congressional efforts, not from any single individual.
“I often hear folks say, ‘Donald Trump sent me a check during the pandemic.’ I want to make sure you understand this: Congress sent you a check,” Obama asserted, adding that President Joe Biden also extended pandemic relief without attaching personal credit.
He further referenced his administration’s actions during the Great Recession, explaining that they too provided financial assistance to citizens, but opted not to emblazon their names on the cheques, as the focus was solely on helping the public.
Obama also seized the moment to endorse Kamala Harris in the ongoing presidential race.
“Don’t be giving him credit for that. And don’t give him your vote, either. There’s only one candidate in this election who cares about you, and that’s Kamala Harris,” he concluded.
