Former Governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has predicted that the people of Edo State will miss the outgoing Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, in no distant future.
Tambuwal made the remarks in Benin City, on Tuesday at the commissioning of Edo Education Hub, one of flagship projects of Obaseki.
The Education Hub which is built on the site of the former State Ministry of Education, Iyaro that was gutted by fire, consists of training facilities for both students and teachers to acquire digital skills.
Tambuwal said: “I must commend you for this initiative of remembering those who had done well for us in the past by dedicating themselves in one of the best professions on earth, and that is the teaching profession. I’m sure I no distant future, Edo people will be missing you.
“I must commend him for this initiative of education hub. It’s yet another first, as I’ve not seen it anywhere in Nigeria.
“I charge the people that are coming after you to continue with your good work. It’s not about politics, it’s about governance, it’s about the people of Edo State and it’s about the people of Nigeria.”
Tambuwal also commended Obaseki for remembering dead teachers who had served the state in the past, with post-humous award.
Speaking before cutting the tape to commission the project, Governor Peter Mba of Enugu State, commended Obaseki for investing in persons, unlike most politicians who will rather invest in things that are visible, adding: “there couldn’t be anything greater than that.”
“I feel honored to be invited to perform the commissioning of this massive project, the Education Hub. What I’ve noticed that is recurrent and it keeps recurring in the events of today and indeed in the last few weeks is, this has been a journey of leadership that is peoples-focused.
“Indeed, the true wealth any state or nation, does not necessarily lie on the resources you have beneath your soil; it is the human recourses, the human capital, that is what you can invest in, and, perhaps in a other 10, 15 years, you’re going to begin to appreciate the values of those investments.
“You must be very proud of your achievements, because, as I said, posterity will certainly reserve a noble place for you.
“These children that you have impacted so positively, that you have inbuild with a skills set will never forget you, no matter what anybody does. I’m really honored to be part of this commissioning. This is what all of us as governors should also strive to achieve.
“I want to commend you for your life-inspirering projects that you bVe have executed, with due belief that those of us who are still serving will be greatly inspired by this great project that we are all witnesses to today. I want to re-echo the joy I have to be part of this commissioning today,” Mba added.
Earlier in the day, Governor Mba also commissioned the reconstructed Benin Technical College.
