Nigerian singer-songwriter Williams Oluwatosin popularly known as Penny, born on September 6, 1997, hails from Edo State (father’s side) and Osun State (mother’s side).
Representing Doing2much Records, Penny musical journey has been marked by perseverance, passion, and a deep-seated desire to inspire.
Penny’s interest in music began in 2010 when he formed a group called Tobax with a close friend. The duo created music and performed at school events, despite initial limitations. These early experiences sparked a creative flame that would eventually drive Penny to pursue music as a career.
After attending Great Kings Academy and later Arizona College, Oluwatosin took a hiatus from music. However, the seeds of his musical passion remained, awaiting the right moment to germinate.
In December 2020, Penny returned to music as an outlet for self-expression during challenging times. Inspired by his producer, Akinjo, he began recording music from 2020 to 2023. This period of creative growth culminated in his debut singles, showcasing his unique voice and perspective.
Penny’s music blends elements of Afrobeat, R&B, and contemporary Nigerian sounds. His soulful voice and thought-provoking lyrics resonate with listeners, offering a glimpse into his experiences and emotions.
Penny is presently working on his debut album, slated for release after one or two additional singles. He continues to push the boundaries of his artistry.
Growing up in a supportive family, Penny acknowledges the sacrifices made by his parents to ensure his success. This upbringing instilled in him a strong work ethic and dedication to his craft.
Penny cites influential artists such as Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy as sources of inspiration. He also draws from personal experiences, societal issues, and cultural heritage to craft meaningful lyrics.
