U.S. Republican candidate Donald Trump has emphasized the importance of Pennsylvania in his path to victory, declaring that winning the state would secure him “the whole deal.”
“If we win Pennsylvania, we win the whole deal,” Trump stated in an interview on The Rich Zeoli Show on Philadelphia’s Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, urging his supporters to remain patient and resolute at the polls.
“We’re going to make this country greater than ever before, but you have to stay in line,” he added. “Don’t let them slow ball you. You have an absolute legal right and get that vote in because if we win Pennsylvania, if we win the good old Commonwealth, we’re going to win the whole thing. We win everything.”
Both Trump and his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, have set their sights on Pennsylvania as a crucial battleground.
The state holds 19 electoral votes—the largest share among the seven swing states that experts believe could determine the outcome of the election.
Victory in Pennsylvania could provide either candidate an advantage toward reaching the 270 electoral votes needed to secure the presidency.
The focus on Pennsylvania reveals the high stakes of the state’s electoral votes, with both campaigns pushing hard to capture voters’ attention. Polls closed in Pennsylvania at 8 p.m. local time (0100 GMT), though voters still in line at that hour are permitted to cast their ballots.
