At least 15 people were confirmed dead in a road crash on the Funtua-Gusau road in Funtua, Katsina State, as reported by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Command in the state.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Aliyu Ma’aji, confirmed the road crash in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Shamsudeen Babajo, on Saturday in Katsina.
He stated that the road crash, which took place on Saturday, involved a Toyota Hiace and a Dangote truck. According to Ma’aji, the crash resulted from a tyre burst on the Toyota bus, leading to a loss of control and a head-on collision.
He reported that the crash claimed the lives of 15 people, with 13 others sustaining varying degrees of injuries. The victims were taken to Funtua General Hospital by the Funtua Unit Command patrol team.
Ma’aji urged motorists to regularly check the condition of their tyres before setting out on journeys. He also advised them to avoid speeding, overloading, and reckless driving as part of preventive measures to reduce road accidents. NAN)
