President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the nation’s most challenging economic period is now over, signaling a new era of recovery and growth for Nigeria.
This statement was disclosed by Stanley Nkwocha, spokesperson for the Vice President, in Abuja on Tuesday.
Tinubu’s assurance came during the inauguration ceremony of Sen. Monday Okpebholo and Dennis Idahosa as Governor and Deputy Governor of Edo State.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the President stressed that the event marked a great step forward for Edo State.
“This atmosphere of joy and hope resonates with the voice of the people,” he stated.
“We have weathered the hardest days as a nation. We have pulled back from the brink of economic collapse, and now we step forward into a time of growth.”
Tinubu reflected on the economic challenges his administration faced upon assuming office and stressed that urgent reforms were necessary to ensure fiscal and monetary stability.
“Securing the future of our economy demanded serious reform to stave off threats to the stability of this great nation,” he said.
He also called for unity and reconciliation within Edo State following the election, urging leaders to prioritize the welfare of all citizens, regardless of political affiliations.
“An honest leader is quick to see the legacy of problems they inherit,” Tinubu noted, “but what defines such a leader is the courage to confront them.”
In his speech, Okpebholo expressed gratitude to Edo residents for their trust, pledging to foster rapid development and improve the state’s economy.
He outlined a five-point agenda that prioritizes healthcare, security, education, economic growth, and infrastructure development.
“Edo shall rise again,” Okpebholo declared, vowing to rehabilitate the state’s roadways, expand electricity access, and empower small businesses.
He also committed to addressing youth unemployment through initiatives that support job creation and provide soft loans to market women.
