Singer Jaywon has publicly apologized to his junior colleague, Ayra Starr, after facing backlash for what was perceived as a mocking gesture following the 67th Grammy Awards nominations.

The controversy erupted after Ayra Starr’s absence from the prestigious list of nominees stirred heated debates.

In the midst of the backlash, Jaywon, who has been involved in an online feud with Ayra Starr, shared a photo of himself posing with two Grammy awards. Many fans interpreted the post as a jab aimed at Ayra Starr.

However, Jaywon quickly clarified his intentions, taking to X (formerly Twitter) to express regret.

“If you see Ayra Starr, tell her I’m sorry she wasn’t nominated for this year’s Grammys. I’m a huge fan of her music, and I believe she’s one of the best female vocalists Africa has,” he wrote, distancing himself from any malicious intent.

As a voting member of the Recording Academy, Jaywon further emphasized his commitment to supporting fellow artistes.

“On this side, we don’t pull people down. We elevate, not just for today, but for the future. Ola Inu Kan,” he added.
