The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) agency, in collaboration with Hi-Tech Demographic Consulting Services, has organised a training programme for local government coordinators to enhance the enforcement of roof rack regulations across the state.

Held at the TRACE headquarters in Ajebo, Abeokuta, the training aimed to equip coordinators with the knowledge and skills necessary to implement the new safety enforcement scheme effectively.

Hi-Tech Demographic Services Chairman, Mr Moruf Bello, explained that the initiative stems from Governor Dapo Abiodun’s concern over the increasing number of road accidents caused by improperly secured loads on roof racks.

He noted that the scheme is designed to mitigate these risks by ensuring vehicles with roof racks comply with safety standards and regulations.

Participants were educated on the dangers of overloaded or unsecured roof racks, including the potential for road accidents, property damage, and harm to infrastructure.

TRACE IPO, Mr Onasanya Babalola, highlighted the agency’s legal authority to enforce traffic laws, particularly those related to roof rack usage, and outlined procedures for stopping, inspecting, and issuing citations to non-compliant vehicles.

The training also underscored the importance of public awareness campaigns to educate drivers on the risks associated with improper roof rack usage and the need for compliance. Additionally, participants were encouraged to foster collaboration between TRACE and other law enforcement agencies to ensure effective enforcement across the state.

TRACE PRO, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, delivered a presentation on the role of human relations in traffic management.

He emphasised that professionalism, discipline, honesty, loyalty, and teamwork are essential qualities for coordinators in their duties.

He further stressed zero tolerance for corruption and extortion and encouraged respectful and humble interactions with the public to build trust and cooperation.
