The Lagos State Safety Commission has urged residents to prioritise safety and adopt proactive measures as the year draws to a close.
The Director-General of the Lagos Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, issued the advisory during a weekend briefing, emphasising the need for increased vigilance due to the current extreme heat and dry weather conditions.
“Once there is life, there is hope for a better tomorrow. We must prioritise the safety of lives above all else,” Mr. Mojola stated, highlighting the health risks associated with the prevailing weather, including dehydration, high fever, blurred vision, and exhaustion.
He cautioned residents against unsafe practices that could lead to accidents, specifically warning against smoking in public spaces and the improper storage of flammable substances, including fuel, in homes, shops, or stalls. Such actions, he noted, heighten the risk of fire outbreaks and related fatalities.
Mr. Mojola called for collective responsibility, urging Lagosians to support the government in maintaining safe homes, workplaces, and communities.
For further safety guidelines, he encouraged residents to visit the commission’s website at www.lasgsafetyreg.com.
He said by adhering to these safety measures, the state can work towards creating a secure and hazard-free environment for all.
