Indian community excited by Tinubu’s conferment of GCON award on Modi

The Indian community in Nigeria has expressed happiness over the conferment of the prestigious Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger(GCON), award on their Prime Minister, Narendra Modi by President Bola Tinubu.
Tinubu on Sunday, during the Nigeria/India Bilateral meeting held in Abuja, conferred the national honour on the Indian Prime Minister.
The Nigerian president said that the award was bestowed on the Indian leader to signify Nigeria’s appreciation and commitment to the Nigerian-Indian partnership.
Queen Elizabeth is the only foreign dignitary to have received such honour in 1969.
The Nigerian recognition is the 17th such international award conferred on PM Modi by a foreign country.
In his acceptance remarks, Modi dedicated the honour to the 1.4 billion citizens of India and the deep friendship between India and Nigeria.
”This honour will continue to inspire us to take the India-Nigeria strategic partnership to new heights.
”The relations between India and Nigeria are based on mutual cooperation, understanding and mutual respect.
”As two vibrant democracies and dynamic economies, we will continue to work for the benefit of our people,” Modi said.
Speaking of the award on Modi by Tinubu, Mr Sanjay Srivastava, Founder of Overseas Friends of Bharatiya Janata Party (OFBJP), Nigeria Chapter, in a statement on Sunday, said the award was a testament to Modi’s contributions to strengthening bilateral relations between India and Nigeria.
Srivastava said that Modi’s recognition was a significant milestone in India-Nigeria relations, reflecting his tireless efforts toward fostering cooperation and mutual understanding between the two nations.
“On behalf of the Indian community in Nigeria, along with the General Secretary of OFBJP Nigeria, Mr Pravin Kumar, and Vice Presidents Vikas Kane and Mr Sabir Ali, we extend our congratulations to PM Modi for this exceptional recognition.
“The Indian community in Nigeria sees PM Modi’s GCON honour as a moment of pride, recognising his dedication to promoting global cooperation and development.
