A tragic incident unfolded in Ilesa on Thursday, November 21, 2024, when unknown gunmen shot and killed the wife and daughter of Topmost Ayinde, a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), as they were attending to their shop in a bustling market.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers approached on foot and opened fire on the two women during busy market hours before fleeing the scene.
Both victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds and were declared dead at the location.
Their bodies were subsequently taken to the morgue by local authorities.
The Ilesa West Police Division has confirmed the shooting and stated that investigations are ongoing.
No suspects have been apprehended so far.
The attack has sent shockwaves through the community, sparking fears over the escalating insecurity in the area.
“If people can be killed in broad daylight at the market, then no one feels safe anymore,” expressed a resident who wished to remain anonymous.
While the motive behind the shooting has not been officially established, the victims’ family suspects political motives, citing Mr. Ayinde’s membership in the PDP
