The Federal High Court in Lagos has set 5th and 6th February 2025 as the trial dates for Florence Moses, a 56-year-old housewife, who stands accused of dealing in narcotics.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) charged Moses with two counts of illegal drug possession, alleging that she was found with 9.7 kilograms of cannabis sativa and 50 litres of liquid cannabis at Last Bus Stop, Badore, Ajah, Lagos, on 24th September 2024.
Prosecutors N.J. Manza and J.O. Negedu stated that the substances are prohibited under Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. The charge describes cannabis sativa as a narcotic akin to cocaine, heroin, and LSD.
During her arraignment, Moses pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail by the court.
Details of the Charges
-Count One: Unlawfully dealing in 9.7 kilograms of cannabis sativa without authorisation.
-Count Two: Unlawfully dealing in 50 litres of liquid cannabis sativa without authorisation.
The NDLEA has vowed to pursue the case to ensure accountability, as the charges represent a significant violation of Nigeria’s drug enforcement laws.
The court’s decision on the matter is highly anticipated, with the trial expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the alleged offences.
