The Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory Agency (LSMTL) has launched an online registration portal aimed at enhancing efficiency and accuracy in the testing of building materials, a key step toward ensuring the safety and durability of structures across the state.
NAN reports that the web portal was unveiled during the eGIS Retreat 2.0 held on Saturday at 21st Century Technologies, Lekki, Lagos.
The General Manager of LSMTL, Olayinka Abdul, highlighted the transformative potential of the portal, stating that it will automate data capture and tracking of building materials tests, eliminating manual errors and expediting the quality assurance process.
“This software application captures and tracks building data to streamline LSMTL’s quality assurance process for long-lasting structures. This initiative will directly benefit all stakeholders, including potential clients and LSMTL agents,” Abdul explained.
She emphasized the agency’s commitment to leveraging data-driven insights from geotechnical investigations to improve building safety in Lagos. Detailed studies will identify the unique characteristics of different areas, enabling tailored construction practices to mitigate risks.
“By collecting and analysing data, collaborating with other agencies, and developing detailed maps, LSMTL aims to create a more resilient and sustainable built environment in Lagos,” Abdul added.
The online portal, linked to the state government’s Alpha Beta platform, enhances transparency and accountability by providing customers with a user-friendly system to track test progress and process payments. Abdul urged professionals to maintain high standards by ensuring COREN certification for compliance with testing regulations.
Dr. Olajide Babatunde, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on eGIS and Urban Development, praised the initiative, underscoring its alignment with the state’s broader technology-driven reforms.
“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has fostered public trust by ensuring ministries, departments, and agencies build on existing work and adopt common platforms for information sharing and enhanced services. This retreat reflects our focus on leveraging technology to improve the quality of life for Lagos residents,” Babatunde stated.
