Renowned Nigerian clergyman and founder of Mount Zion Faith Ministries, Mike Bamiloye, has sparked a debate after addressing a sensitive issue involving some pastors’ wives.

Taking to social media, the Christian filmmaker claimed that certain pastors’ wives are allegedly making their marriages difficult, leveraging their husbands’ spiritual callings to manipulate them.

According to Bamiloye, some women in ministry assume that their husbands, due to their religious duties, cannot resort to violence or divorce, using this as a tool to “blackmail” them emotionally.

He added that many pastors endure their marriages instead of enjoying them.

“Some women believe that a pastor cannot beat them like unbelievers or divorce them at will. They use the man’s calling/ministry to blackmail him. Several pastors aren’t enjoying their marriage but enduring it,” he wrote.

Bamiloye’s statement has ignited conversations online, with many questioning his reference to domestic violence while others urged for prayers and faith.

Several social media users expressed disapproval over the mention of pastors beating their wives.

  • “Forget divorce. Why should husbands beat their wives? If you can’t deal, walk away,” one user, Kewelicious, commented.
  • Cza_dd added, “Beat them as how, sir? Is a woman meant to be beaten?”

Others urged clergymen to turn to prayer and God’s intervention to resolve marital issues.

  • “Let them pray about it; there’s nothing God can’t do,” said Jhoystin.
  • Symply_beautiana advised, “If you cannot pray for your wife to change, how can you pray for the congregation? Have faith, Pastor.”
  • Another user, Its_anitachristabel, wrote, “Keep praying for the women, sir. Your God will do it.”
