JUST IN: Tinubu returns to Abuja after G20 Summit in Brazil

President Bola Tinubu returned to Abuja on Saturday night after attending the 2024 G20 Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The president arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport accompanied by his wife, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.

Tinubu had departed Abuja on 17 November for the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit held in Brazil at the invitation of the host and current G20 President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The summit, which took place from 18 to 19 November, brought together leaders from the world’s 20 largest economies, the European Union, the African Union, and various multilateral financial institutions.

Under the theme “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,” participants focused on issues such as combating hunger and poverty, reforming global governance institutions, sustainable development, and energy transition.

Nigeria, a consistent advocate for reforms of global institutions, reiterated its credentials as a strong contender for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council during the discussions.

On the sidelines of the summit, Tinubu engaged in bilateral meetings aimed at advancing Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms.

The president was accompanied by top government officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha; Minister of Art, Tourism, Culture and Creativity, Hannatu Musawa; Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi; and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
