‘Morayo’ album by Grammy award-winning Nigerian singer, Ibrahim Balogun popularly known as Wizkid has broken the record for most single-day streams for any album in Spotify Nigeria history.
‘Morayo’ is a tribute to Wizkid’s late mother, Jane Dolapo Balogun, who passed away in August 2023.
The album garnered 12 million streams on Spotify Nigeria, twice the previous record held by Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy.’
‘Morayo’ earned 16.27 million streams in its first full day of release on Spotify.
It marks the biggest debut of any African album.
Wizkid also broke the record for the most single-day streams for a song in Spotify Nigeria history with ‘Kese (Dance).’
His song, ‘Piece Of My Heart’ held the previous record.
The singer featured artistes like Asake, Brent Faiyaz, Jazmine Sullivan, Anaïs, and Tiakola.
The album comprises 16 tracks including, ‘Troubled Mind’, ‘Karamo’, ‘Kese (Dance)’, ‘Bad Girl’, ‘Time’, ‘Piece of My Heart’, ‘Break Me Down’, ‘Bend’, and ‘A Million Blessings’.
Others are ‘Après Minuit’, ‘Bad for You’, ‘Soji’, ‘Don’t Care’, ‘Slow’, ‘Lose’, and ‘Pray’.
Born in Surulere on July 16, 1990, Wizkid grew up in a polygamous home with a Muslim father and a Christian mother.
In December, Wizkid released his latest musical project, the “Soundman Vol. 2” EP.
The four-tracks project includes vibrant collaborations with industry heavyweights Wande Coal and Zlatan Ibile.
He has released four additional albums including, ‘Ayo’ in 2014, ‘Sound From The Other Side’ in 2017.
Notably, ‘Soundman Vol. 1’ was released in December 2019. ‘Made In Lagos’ in 2020, and ‘More Love, Less Ego’ in 2022.
The singer has also received numerous recognitions, including a Grammy Award in 2021 for his collaboration with Beyoncé on the hit song ‘Brown Skin Girl’.
‘Made In Lagos’ was recently announced as the most streamed Nigerian album on Apple Music.
