The Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation has marked a significant milestone in its mission to enhance public service across Africa by launching the fourth cohort of the AIG Public Leaders Programme (PLP).
Delivered in collaboration with the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, this initiative has trained 169 public sector leaders since 2021, contributing to the Foundation’s ambitious goal of equipping 3,000 leaders with the skills to implement impactful reforms and improve service delivery within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) by 2030.
The AIG PLP, an executive training programme, focused on strengthening the capabilities of African public sector leaders, enabling them to deliver tangible results while fostering cultures of integrity, innovation, and excellence.
The Foundation’s vision aimed to develop a new generation of leaders capable of addressing complex challenges and enacting sustainable reforms that resonate within their communities.
The programme’s impact has been evident through its alumni, who have spearheaded transformative projects within their organisations.
Among these successes was a project led by Dr Ibiwunmi Olokun, a Medical Officer of Health and Primary Health Care Coordinator at the Lagos State Primary Healthcare Board and a member of the programme’s third cohort.
Dr Olokun implemented a reform that reduced patient waiting times at her Primary Healthcare Centre from 70 minutes to 30 minutes, a model now being adopted across other facilities within her district.
Another notable alumnus, Mohammed Ahmed, Director and Chief of Staff to the CEO of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit and a member of the first cohort, focused his reform project on forging public-private partnerships to combat financial crimes.
His efforts have significantly improved Nigeria’s financial crime prevention strategies, creating robust collaborations that enhance the nation’s capacity to address financial challenges.
The latest cohort, including participants from Ghana and Kenya, began with virtual classes and prepared for an intensive one-week residential programme in Abuja from 18th to 22nd November.
During this period, participants engaged with faculty from the Blavatnik School of Government, Oxford, to acquire strategic insights and practical tools for implementing change within their MDAs.
With the inauguration of this new class, the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to reshaping public sector leadership across Africa.
By equipping leaders with the tools to drive reforms and improve service efficiency, the Foundation continued to lead the charge in transforming public service on the continent.
