Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has presented a 2025 budget proposal of N682,244,449,513.87 to the State House of Assembly for approval.

Tagged the “Budget of Consolidation,” the proposal allocates 23.15% (N157.97 billion) to recurrent expenditure and 76.85% (N524.27 billion) to capital expenditure, representing a 40% increase over the previous year’s budget.

The proposed budget prioritises education, agriculture, and infrastructure.

Key allocations include: Education: N95.99 billion (14%), Agriculture & Livestock Development: N81.84 billion (12%), Works, Housing & Transport: N69.68 billion (10%), Rural & Social Development: N58.73 billion (9%), Water Resources: N53.83 billion (8%), Environment: N49.84 billion (7%), Health: N43.88 billion (6%) and Internal Security & Home Affairs: N18.94 billion (3%)

Other sectors will account for 31% (N230.76 billion) of the total budget.

Achievements of the 2024 Budget

Radda lauded the performance of the 2024 budget, citing improved access to basic services, increased Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), and the completion of numerous projects.

He also highlighted significant progress in addressing security challenges, which have restored normalcy to several local government areas.

Focus of the 2025 Budget

Radda expressed optimism about the potential of the 2025 budget to drive economic growth and improve residents’ living standards.

He described the proposal as building on the successes of the past year to further advance Katsina’s development agenda.

He acknowledged the contributions of development partners, civil servants, security agencies, and traditional and religious leaders to the state’s progress.

He also paid tribute to security personnel who lost their lives in service, extending condolences to their families.

Assembly’s Commitment

The Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura, assured citizens of a thorough review of the budget.

He praised Governor Radda’s commitment to security and development, noting that the proposed provisions reflect a strong resolve to combat crime and improve living standards.

The Speaker outlined the Assembly’s recent legislative achievements, including the passage of laws such as the Katsina State Geographic Information Service Law, Katsina State Community Watch Agency Law, and Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law.

He reaffirmed the Assembly’s dedication to timely budget passage and effective oversight to ensure its implementation benefits the people of Katsina.

Radda urged the Assembly to expedite the budget’s approval, emphasising the need to fulfil the government’s promises to residents.
