Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has pledged to rid the state of criminals and restore lasting peace to the Heartbeat of the Nation.

He made the vow in Benin on Monday during the swearing-in ceremony of three new appointees.

Okpebholo stated that under his administration, criminals would not be allowed to disrupt the peace or evade justice.

The new appointees include Emmanuel Okoebor, appointed Commissioner for Finance; Paddy Iyamu, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB); and retired Commissioner of Police, Friday Ibadin, as Coordinator of the Edo Security Network.

The Governor commended the appointees for their dedication and hard work, urging them to use their new roles to drive the state’s progress.

He further tasked them with improving education, bolstering security, and strengthening the state’s treasury to foster development and create a better environment for all Edo citizens.

On education, he noted that it was trust that secured the appointees’ positions and expressed confidence in their abilities to rebuild the sector.

“You have supported education with your own resources, but now it’s time to utilise state resources to further progress.”

Okpebholo also spoke of his confidence in retired CP Ibadin’s ability to secure the state, adding, “It is time to chase criminals out of our land.”

He urged the new Commissioner for Finance, Okoebor, to leverage his banking experience to safeguard the state’s finances. “You know the job, and we believe in your expertise. Use that experience to save Edo’s resources and invest in our development.”

In response, Finance Commissioner Okoebor, speaking on behalf of the new appointees, assured the Governor and the people of Edo that they were committed to supporting the Governor’s five-point development agenda.
