Police officers cry out over delayed promotion

Some senior police officers of the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police have appealed to the  Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun and the Police Service Commission, Chairman,  Hashimu Argungu to approve their long overdue promotion.

The officers  said they needed to be promoted  to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police to boost their morale for the job.

Some of the officers who spoke with P.M.  NEWS anonymously said that they decided to let the authorities know that their promotion was overdue.

They stated that they were promoted from the rank of Inspector to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police on 8 December, 2018 and confirmed on 8 December, 2020 and that they had been expecting their promotion to the rank Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP since 2023.

One of them said, “We Senior Police officers of the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP have been patiently waiting for the authorities to promote us to the next rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police after being on one rank for years. We are still waiting as a civil servants but we decided to cry out when we learnt that some of our junior Assistant Superintendent of police Officers are being promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Another  officer stated, “We commend our boss, IGP Egbetokun for his wonderful performance since he assumed office and PSC Chairman, Mr Argungu for transforming and repositioning the Commission within a short time of assuming office. And we are now appealing to the two leaders to approve our promotion to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP to further boost our morale and dedication for the job.”
