Nigerian Afrobeats singer Tiwa Savage has stressed the importance of artistes fostering genuine relationships with their fans, noting how such connections can transcend music.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Shopping The Sneakers podcast, Savage noted that a strong rapport with fans allows them to connect with other facets of an artiste’s life, including their lifestyle and personal brand.
“It’s not just about the music; it’s your fanbase and your brand,” Savage explained.
“You’ve to think of your fashion. You’ve to be relatable. A lot of times, artists are just putting out music; they are not really connecting with the fans.”
She praised fellow Afrobeats icons Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, pointing out that their enduring popularity is tied to their ability to maintain strong relationships with their supporters.
“If you look at Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, they have established relationships with their fanbases. They love their lifestyles. Whether they are dropping a song or not, they are in the conversation. So it’s really important to build a fanbase. You are only as good as strong as your team,” she said.
