Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed his commitment to fairness and inclusivity, stating that no one should face discrimination, marginalisation, or hatred due to personal biases or a lack of political connections.

He made the statement on Monday while swearing in three new judges—Ojo Maureen Osa, Okundamiya Godwin Jeff, and Edoghogho Eboigbe—into the Edo State High Court Bench.

The judges were among eight candidates recommended by the National Judicial Council (NJC) in June 2023 but were excluded when the previous administration swore in five others in May 2024.

Addressing the ceremony, Okpebholo recounted his pledge during his inauguration to address the exclusion and expressed satisfaction in correcting the oversight.

“During my swearing-in on 12th November 2024, I recognised the judiciary’s critical role under the doctrine of separation of powers. Today, we reinforce that role by ensuring fairness and integrity in judicial appointments,” Okpebholo said.

He urged the judges to uphold the highest standards of conduct, resolve disputes impartially, safeguard citizens’ rights, and ensure justice prevails.

Justice Ojo Maureen Osa, speaking on behalf of her colleagues, expressed gratitude to the governor for making their appointments a reality just three weeks into his tenure.

“We assure you of our commitment to dispensing justice without fear or favour,” she stated.

The swearing-in underscores Governor Okpebholo’s efforts to strengthen the judiciary and foster equity within Edo State’s governance.
