Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has directed the immediate reinstatement of all Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, staff who were dismissed in March 2023.
The directive was announced in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhilor, who confirmed that the affected employees, primarily members of the Academic Staff Union of the University (ASUU), were terminated by the now-defunct Special Intervention Team (SIT) under former Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.
The lecturers were reportedly dismissed due to their protests over unpaid salaries and outstanding entitlements.
Governor Okpebholo’s administration emphasised its commitment to justice and fairness, stating: “The Government of Senator Monday Okpebholo believes in the principles of natural justice, equity, and good conscience, and will not hesitate to address any injustice meted out to citizens of Edo State.”
The statement further underscored the governor’s adherence to the rule of law, noting that the reinstatement reflects his dedication to fair governance.
The move has been widely viewed as a significant step towards mending relationships within the state’s academic community.
