Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has reiterated his belief in the ability of persons with disabilities (PWDs) to excel despite the daily challenges they encounter.
The governor made this statement on Tuesday at an event marking this year’s World Disabilities Day, held at Osogbo Grammar School.
World Disabilities Day, which is observed annually on December 3, was established by the United Nations to raise awareness about the rights and potential of PWDs.
Adeleke, represented by his Special Adviser on Special Needs, Kamil Aransi, praised the resilience, creativity, and potential of persons with disabilities in the state, calling for greater engagement of PWDs across all sectors of society.
During his address on the theme “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disability for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” Adeleke emphasized the importance of empowering PWDs through policy reforms, advocacy, and targeted empowerment programs.
He reassured attendees of the state government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for persons with disabilities to thrive.
“Persons with disabilities are not defined by their challenges but by their resilience, creativity, and potential,” Adeleke stated, noting that PWDs across Osun State and beyond have already demonstrated their excellence in various fields including arts, sports, education, governance, and entrepreneurship.
