Popular Nollywood actor Nonso Diobi has addressed longstanding rumours of rivalry and comparisons with his colleague Mike Ezuruonye, offering insights into their intertwined journeys in the Nigerian film industry.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Labista, Nonso revisited moments in their careers, shedding light on topics such as mistaken identity, fan speculation, and their creative collaborations.
Nonso disclosed that he ventured into Nollywood before Ezuruonye, recounting the significant moment when the two appeared together in Mike’s debut film.
He acknowledged how early in their careers, fans often confused them with each other.
“People would mistake me for Mike and Mike for me,” Nonso revealed. “Instead of seeing it as a problem, we laughed it off and built a strong bond.”
The actor debunked the narrative of a rivalry between them, attributing such rumours to fan expectations and media narratives.
Instead, Nonso highlighted how the duo leaned into their perceived similarities, even persuading directors to cast them together to showcase their unique on-screen chemistry.
“We realized that we could work better together rather than against each other,” he explained. “That decision has not only strengthened our friendship but also brought memorable collaborations to Nollywood.”
