The Kano State Government has criticised the barricade of the Emir of Kano’s Palace at Kofar Kudu by security operatives, warning that the action is heightening tension across the state.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Baba Halilu Dantiye, the government expressed deep concern over the development, describing it as disruptive and disrespectful to traditional institutions.

“The Kano State Government wishes to express its profound dismay and deep concern over the reported blockade of the entrance to the Kofar Kudu Palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, by heavily armed security operatives,” the statement read.

The commissioner noted that the incident has caused distress among residents and neighbouring communities. “We strongly condemn any action that disrupts peace or undermines the dignity of traditional institutions, which are central to the unity and cultural heritage of our people,” he added.

The blockade, which occurred on Friday, reportedly prevented Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II from attending to official duties outside the palace.

He appealed to residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and avoid spreading unverified information that could escalate tension.

“The Kano State Government remains resolute in its commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of its people and ensuring the continued stability of our great state,” Dantiye affirmed.

The incident has sparked widespread concern, with calls for dialogue and respect for Kano’s traditional heritage.
